Shout Out To Tootsa Stockists Part 2 – ÉMEU, Paris•
Posté le avril 06 2020
Bonjour! We hope you are all OK and managing to stay safe ….and sane!
When I have been feeling low this week I found it useful to remember that we are ‘safe at home’ not ‘stuck at home’. And I took comfort in seeing all the rainbows in the windows and children at home choosing to wear their comfiest and brightest outfits!
Nevertheless, times are anxious and I know that all of our fabulous independent stockists are particularly struggling. Each have told me how they are now spending huge waves of time knee deep in administration, hours ‘on-hold’ to their banks and government helplines and plenty of time promoting their web shops. All have now temporarily closed their bricks and mortar stores but many are still shipping out orders 2-3 days a week and trying to stay a-float.
Today we are giving our Parisian re-seller Antoine, and his beautiful Eco-conscious shop ‘Émeu’ an extra special mention.
“All grown-ups were children first. (But few remember)”.
These words from Saint-Exupéry in the introduction to ‘The Little Prince’ were inspiration for Antoine when he began following his dream to open up his own shop; A place dedicated to children with eco-friendly gifts, toys, books and clothing.
Ask Antoine why he chose the name Émeu (french for Emu) and he’ll tell you of how the male emu birds share the duties of raising their chicks (they incubate the eggs and care for the chicks for a full 18 months before they are old enough to leave the nest!). He was keen for this to be a reflection of his choice of unisex clothing, toys and books – steering away from stereotypes and towards diversity and inclusivity instead.
Émeu is also known for it’s activity corner, with a rich calendar of classes for kids and parents including art activities and baby sign language classes. And with it’s close proximity to several creches, kindergartens and play parks Émeu is a much needed meet-up space for many Parisian parents and kids. We have no doubt they will be bustling once more just as soon as the French ‘confinement’ is over!
Meanwhile, whilst waiting out the lock-down, Antoine has set up a gorgeous Trouva store here. The silver lining is that even those that live outside Paris can now benefit from his fabulous eco-friendly selection!
I love this cute Walrus & boat bath toy and The ‘Family Builders’ construction toy (a fine example of how to teach kids diversity, inclusivity, love and acceptance in these gorgeous hand made wooden blocks). Any of his ‘Pirouette Cacahouete’ crafting kits would make a wonderful activity for now, tthese jungle animal masks are particularly lovely.
